What preparation actually means
- Gather while it is still easy
- Documents collected through the year, with the date and source attached, rather than reconstructed in a week from statements and memory.
- See what is missing before it matters
- What has not been provided says so plainly, in advance — which is the difference between a gap you can close and one you discover at a deadline.
- Arrive with the questions written down
- The things you meant to ask, recorded when you thought of them. Your professional's time is better spent answering than reconstructing.
- Keep the year's changes visible
- A move, a new income source, a business started — the events that change a return are the ones most easily forgotten by the time it is due.
